People living on the northern side of Niue have been months without television reception while they wait for a fault on the main transmission tower to be repaired.
Niue is awaiting Chinese assistance to make the repairs after microwave equipment on the tower failed at the beginning of February.
The tower was constructed by the Chinese government in 2005 after the initial tower was destroyed by cyclone Heta.
The general manager of the Niue Broadcasting Corporation Trevor Tiakia says a team of engineers from New Zealand came to Niue last year and identified a raft of problems.
"They did a report outlining corrosion and problems with the mountings and the antennas, from that we contacted the Chinese government and they have agreed to assist. That was last year. Since cyclone warnings at the beginning of the year the mountings have rusted really bad and the strong winds have misaligned the studio links."
Trevor Tiakia says the Chinese repair team is expected to arrive on the first or second week of May, and it's hoped the equipment will be able to last longer than the 5 year period it had last withstood.
