Arrest over French Polynesia's assembly hoax call

6:52 pm on 15 April 2010

Police in French Polynesia have arrested a man over this week's bomb scare which delayed an assembly sitting for several hours.

Tahitipresse says the hoax call to the assembly to warn about a bomb was tracked to a phone box.

The caller is said to have used a pre-paid phone card which allowed the investigators to collate all calls made with it and arrest the suspect.

The call was placed after a tumultuous week at the assembly which coincided with a demonstration against the political instability.
