American Samoa man gets fatal beating over cigarettes

A man in his early 20s in American Samoa has been charged with murder for the beating to death of a man who asked him for cigarettes.

The suspect has been named as Sae Eperone and has been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree assault.

He is being held without bail.

The victim died at the LBJ Hospital an hour after he was admitted to the Emergency Room.

Police say both the suspect and the deceased were intoxicated.
