American Samoa seeks contract to farm out tank farm

10:01 am on 12 April 2010

The American Samoa Government is calling for proposals to contract a terminal operator for the territory's tank farm and fuel dock.

British Petroleum Southwest Pacific is the current terminal operator for the ASG tank farm in Utulei but it is moving out of the territory and is in the process of selling its South Pacific operations, including its local branch.

Sione Kava of the Office of Petroleum Management says with BP leaving, Governor Togiola Tulafono, has decided to issue a Request For Proposal seeking a company to contract as terminal operator.

He said two off-island oil companies and the American Samoa Power Authority have expressed interest in taking over terminal operations, though they have not yet submitted proposals.

Mr Kava says the deadline for submitting proposals is in May.
