PINA changes Fiji internet provider because of unexplained disconnection

11:58 am on 31 March 2010

The Fiji-based Pacific Islands News Association says it has changed its internet provider because its website was blocked.

PINA says no reason was given by the provider, Connect Fiji, for its decision to block attempted connections to its website.

The disconnection was effective from the beginning of last week, impeding the flow of information.

PINA says it has now signed up with another internet provider.

Although it is a regional organisation, PINA is subject to the censorship imposed by the Fiji interim regime since last April.
