The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission supports harsher penalties for election offences, including voting multiple times and under different names.
No date has been set yet for the general election, but the chief electoral officer Polycarp Haununu anticipates it'll be between July and August this year.
Mr Haununu says they are still registering voters and the new measures will help make the process more transparent.
"We have released some of these penalties; that's for any person voting in another person's name and also some offences related to offences like bribery and others."
Polycarp Haununu says breaches include much higher fines, such as 385 US dollars for voting twice, compared to 12 US in the last election.
