Call in American Samoa for entry permit review

2:36 pm on 29 March 2010

A senior goverment official in American Samoa says the Fono needs to fully scrutinise the 30-day entry permit policy, because, he claims, it's being abused.

Matagi Ray McMoore, who sits on the Government's immigration board, says the 30-day permit is a loophole in the local regulations and allows too many foreigners to enter and become overstayers.

He says it appears that local residents are taking advantage of this policy and bringing in many foreigners, especially from Asian countries.

He says once these Asians are on island, the sponsors who brought them in no longer care.
