Cooks Islands tourism industry concerns linger

10:10 am on 27 March 2010

The Cook Islands Tourism Industry Council, which represents operators in the sector, has asked the government-appointed Tourism Corporation to explain its strategy for the industry, after three key staffers resigned suddenly.

The Council says it fears the resignations will undermine the industry and it's concerned about the message these events send.

It says professional and experienced leadership at the Corporation is critical for stability and confidence.

It says the resignations have left a vacuum, which could put the industry in jeopardy.

The Council wants the Corporation board to encourage the former CEO, Glenda Tuaine, to withdraw her resignation.

And it wants the board to attend an urgent meeting of the Tourism Industry Council to outline its strategies and policies.
