The French government says it will give nearly 14 million US dollars in disaster assistance to French Polynesia after the destruction caused by Tropical Cyclone Oli last month.

The assistance was announced by the French overseas territories minister, Marie-Luce Penchard, who happened to be in Tahiti when the Cyclone ravaged the Austral island, in particular Tubuai, last month.

The money is to be used to cover costs to rebuild about 200 homes.

Last week, the territorial assembly passed an emergency budget allocation of 10 million US dollars.
