Fiji's Bureau of Statistics has released its provisional figures for Jan 2010, showing visitor numbers, largely from Australia, were up.

The figures show that visitor arrivals increased by 37-point-6 percent to 45,362, compared to the same period last year.

Attorney-General and Minister for Tourism Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said of that number, 21,586 of these visitors were from Australia.

In a statement, he said the Tourism Fiji campaign is doing well and shows that government spending on the tourism marketing budget grant is paying dividends.

He says for the same month, visitor arrivals from New Zealand also increased this year by 49-point-8 percent, compared to the same period last year.

Visitor numbers were also up from European and Asian countries.
