Pacific island nations are counting themselves as lucky to have been mostly missed by damaging waves following the earthquake in Chile.

The Marquesas islands in the north of French Polynesia, did experience waves up to four metres high, but there have been no reports of major damage or injuries.

Smaller waves were reported in Tonga and Samoa.
