The New Zealand Government agency Child, Youth and Family is increasing efforts to secure stable homes for Pacific children and young people.
The agency is currently responsible for 379 Pacific children and young people, 72 percent of whom are living outside the home of their immediate family.
The agency's National Manager of Pacific Peoples Development, Tofa Suasole Gush says domestic violence is one of the most common reasons why children are placed in their care.
She says families are sometimes reluctant to seek help when a problem gets out of hand.
She says the agency's main aim is return children to their families.
"Well it's important because the children belong to their family. There are extended family and we want these children to grow up and be nurtured by their own communities and people that love them and support them."
Tofa Suasole Gush says a team of senior staff has been designated to work with families to address the issues and give solutions.
