2:42 pm on 2 February 2010

The Fiji government has extended its crackdown on the Methodist Church by banning its divisional and quarterly meetings.

Last month, the interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama extended a ban on the church's annual conferences to 2014.

Now the Permanent Secretary for Information, Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni, has told Fiji Live that divisional and quarterly meetings have been banned.

Lieutenant Colonel Leweni says the only meetings the church can now hold are its monthly meetings which focus on spiritual development.

He says the government remains firm the church should not be involved in politics.
