The U.S. President has made additional disaster assistance available to American Samoa by authorising more federal funds following last September's disasters.

American Samoa made a request last month to increase the federal share or waive the territorial government share in the disaster assistance.

Under Barack Obama's initial disaster declaration, the U.S. government paid 75 percent of public assistance and the territorial government pays 25 percent.

President Obama has now increased the federal share to 90 percent.
