French Polynesia secures more French school funding

The French Polynesian president, Gaston Tong Sang, has signed a deal with the French education minister, Luc Chatel, for more funding of French Polynesia's school.

According to Mr Tong Sang, the new deal provides for 39 million US dollars which will help with the running and maintenance of schools.

He says the funds will also allow for the construction of new schools.

Mr Tong Sang has ended his week-long stay in Paris, with the French overseas territories minister, Marie-Luce Penchard, now due to visit Tahiti in February when French development support will be firmed up.
