Samoa's Ministry of Education Sports and Culture has selected a task force to look into the compulsory teaching of Christianity in all government funded schools this year.
The move was endorsed by cabinet towards the end of 2009.
Our correspondent Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia says this task force will only be responsible for drafting its curriculum and policy to a satisfactory standard.
"There is a task force that's been selected and it's now before cabinet for their approval. And that task force will work on how to introduce this new policy of teaching the Christian faith in primary and also high schools and colleges."
He says the Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, remains supportive of the move saying the nation's constitution is founded on Christian beliefs .
The school term begins on February the 1st.
