PNG's ombudsman Manek undeterred by shooting attack

The chief ombudsman in Papua New Guinea says an apparent attempt on his life will not deter him from his investigations.

Chronox Manek was shot in the arm on Friday after being followed home by a car carrying four men.

Mr Manek says the crime appeared to be an organised attack.

But he will not speculate whether it could be related to his work investigating the conduct of politicians and senior public servants.

Mr Manek has already returned to work after being treated in hospital.

He says the shooting won't deter him from doing his job.

"It's even given me more energy to be at work. I swore on the constitution to progress this institution on behalf of the people of this country. That's what I have to do."

Chronox Manek says the case is now in the hands of the police and he has confidence in their ability to investigate it.
