A 24 year old police officer in Samoa has been charged with eight counts, including rape and actual bodily harm, following an investigation into a complaint filed to the police last week.

The defendant, Faae'e Te'o, appeared before the chief justice, Patu Falefatu Sapolu, where an application by his lawyer to release the accused from police custody on bail was denied.

The matter has been adjourned to January next year for the police to finalise charges and to complete their investigations
