In Solomon Islands, villagers of Barana in northwest Guadalcanal have completed training on reforestation recently.

The Forest Development and Reforestation Division of the Ministry of Forests and Research organised the two-day training.

The Solomon Star reports the acting director of Forest Development and Reforestation Division, Richardson Raomae, as saying the training is part of an ongoing series of village training planned for all provinces throughout the country.

He says the aim of this training is to ensure that communities are informed of the impacts wood supply shortage would have in the future.

Mr Raomae said participants were trained on Forest plantation establishment and land use planning and are now ready to establish wood lots for their families.
