French Senate again reviews status of French Polynesia's Flosse

The French Senate leadership is about to meet to consider a third request by the public prosecutor in Tahiti to lift the parliamentary immunity of French Polynesia's Gaston Flosse.

The latest request was forwarded by the French justice ministry after the 78-year-old politician was charged with corruption over the OPT affair, which has seen several high-profile people being taken into custody.

In September, the Senate rejected a request, saying that he had not been charged.

An earlier bid, made in July, allowed for Mr Flosse to be questioned twice but ruled out any possible arrest.

The OPT affair centres on that a now detained French advertising executive paid large sums of money to Mr Flosse's party as kickbacks for public sector contracts.
