In the Northern Marianas, a Senate-amended budget bill is seeking a voluntary 20 percent cut in the salaries of the governor, lieutenant governor, justices, judges and lawmakers.
Under the bill, which the Senate passed on Wednesday, all full-time government workers will have a four day work week.
Supporters of the bill are looking at measures to reduce the projected 15.3 million US dollars deficit in the next financial year.
The Fitial administration and the House Ways and Means Committee are now reviewing the Senate's version of the budget bill, especially because of the new austerity measures inserted by senators.
