Concert for Pacific maternal health being held in Wellington

7:07 pm on 21 October 2009

A line-up of New Zealand female musicians will take part in 'Safe and Sound', a concert in support of maternal health in the Pacific in Wellington on Thursday night.

The aim of the concert is to increase New Zealand's support for Pacific maternal health, whilst providing a night of quality homegrown entertainment.

It's been organised by Family Planning International which says the death of five Pacific women a day during pregnancy or childbirth is overwhelmingly a preventable tragedy.

Musician Lisa Tomlins who will be playing in the concert says New Zealand must do everything it can to support maternal health in its own backyard.

Other musicians performing in the gig at the San Francisco Bathhouse include Jess Chambers, Iva Lamkum, Bella Kalolo, Tessa Rain and DJ Ayesha.
