New Zealand Immigration has confirmed that a visa has not been denied to a judge in Fiji, but that the application is still being assessed.
The Head of Immigration New Zealand, Andrew Annakin, says that it is not New Zealand's practice to comment on individual immigration cases.
But he says given public comment today by Fiji's Attorney General on a specific, medically-related immigration matter he wished to clarify the situation.
Mr Annakin says no suggestion was made at the time of the enquiry that immediate travel was required to obtain medical treatment for a child and prevent the loss of sight in one eye.
He said although New Zealand maintains travel restrictions against some people following the coup in December 2006, New Zealand has shown consistent flexibility where humanitarian, medical or compassionate grounds have been substantiated.
