The government of American Samoa has yet to decide whether it will buy the assets of Samoa Packing's Chicken of the Sea cannery, amidst suggestions that some of the best equipment has already been transferred to a new facility.
After a two-hour hearing, the House Budget Committee resolved to conduct a site visit to review the assets before it decides whether to act on the governor's five million US dollar appropriation bill.
A Fono representative, Galu Satele Junior, told the hearing he'd received reports that some of the best equipment's already been shipped to Chicken of the Sea's new plant in the United States.
The committee plans more hearings on the matter.
