Children in Samoa celebrate White Sunday

6:39 am on 12 October 2009

Children in Samoa are today celebrating White Sunday despite the devastation of the tsunami.

Many children were killed when the six metre waves battered the island 12 days ago.

But villages and congregations are today going ahead with the traditional celebration as best as they can, celebrating the day with special meaning.

One of the villages near Lalomanu, Ulutogia, is holding their White Sunday in the school hall with donations helping ensure the children are turned out in their traditional white.

The pastor for Ulutogia's Congregation of Christian Church, Mose Lata, says not even a disaster can stop them from celebrating children's day.
