The Papua New Guinea parliament is to sit the week after next rather than its planned resumption in November.
The National newspaper reports parliament is to sit earlier to deal with pressing issues such as the dysentery and cholera out-breaks, which have claimed dozens of lives and led to the declaration of a national health emergency.
In addition MPs have to pass legislation for the creation of transitional authoritys for the new Hela and Jiwaka provinces.
The paper says an additional reason is that MPs need to give effect to the National Strategic Plan.
This session is also expected to consider a bill allowing nominated seats for women in the current parliament and reserved seats to be set up for the next general election in 2010.
The last session of the PNG parliament was cut short by the Prime Minister, Sir Michael Somare, to avert a vote of no confidence.
