Fiji's tourism earnings and visitor numbers drop

Fiji's tourism earnings are expected to drop by 13 percent for the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.

Fijilive quotes the Bureau of Statistics's data for the first quarter as showing that gross earnings from the sector is estimated at 68 million US dollars, compared to last year's 99 million US dollars.

There was also a 23 percent decrease in tourist arrivals for the same quarter from 130, 000 to 100,000.

Less visitors arrived from Australia, the U.S., New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom and South Korea.

However, more visitors arrived from Japan, Taiwan and Europe.
