The Solomon Islands Tax Department says collection from local businesses has improved markedly over the year.
The Acting Tax Commissioner, Andrew Minto, says this year alone, about 400 businesses that were outside the tax net have been taken in line.
He says, as a result, the department collected nearly 115 million US dollars last year, which is a 40-percent increase over the previous year.
Mr Minto says the department is continuing its work to isolate other businesses which are not paying tax.
And he says those which had fallen behind in payments during the height of the crisis are being managed.
Mr Minto reveals the provision in the Taxation Act for tax holidays is being reviewed to ensure it protects the national interest at all times.
The Tax Department has over the last year established a tax awareness team to travel the country holding talks with businesses and communities about the importance of paying tax.
