The Solomon Islands cabinet is to meet tomorrow to discuss ways of averting a public sector strike next week.
The Solomon Islands Public Employees Union has submitted a list of demands, including a cost of living adjustment allowance and housing entitlements, and says its 28-day strike notice will expire on Sunday at midnight.
The prime minister, Dr Derek Sikua, says his cabinet will consider presenting a counter offer, adding that his administration cannot address the union's claims under duress.
This week, the union said the government had not even acknowledged receiving its claims.
Dr Sikua says his government has appealed to the union to withdraw its strike notice for proper negotiations to begin.
