Some of the main union leaders in French Polynesia say they may organise a general strike this month to protest against the financial difficulties many families are faced with.
The CSTP/FO leader Patrick Galenon told Tahitipresse their idea was prompted by the French Polynesian employers' road blocks in Papeete this week.
But he says the workers' unions could do better than the employers, who were given more than eight million US dollars by the government only hours after demonstrating.
Another union leader said the general strike could take place in the middle of August.
The movement aims to denounce the absence of an economic boost and the high cost of living in French Polynesia.
