Papua New Guinea's opposition is considering legal action over the government's move to adjourn parliament until November.
The government won the adjournment vote that was taken to avoid the tabling of a no confidence motion yesterday.
The opposition says it has the support of 58 members in the 109-seat parliament, who are dissatisfied with the prime minister's rule.
The deputy opposition leader, Bart Philemon, says the government has violated the constitution.
He says they are now to decide on their next course of action.
"One is to refer the prime minister, speaker and the leader of government business to the ombudsman commission for the breach of the constitution by moving this motion and to seek an order in the supreme court on the lack of compliance with the constitution over minimum sitting days."
Bart Philemon says parliament sat only 29 days instead of the required 63 days of the parliamentary year.
