A Tokelau community leader in New Zealand says he thinks Pacific communities should look to encourage the establishment of a Pacific Language week, as Maori language week is now underway in New Zealand.
Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori or Maori Language week celebrates 34-years of encouraging people to speak or do something that is Maori.
Ioane Teao says he thinks as an idea to have a week which celebrates all Pacific languages should be looked into.

Ioane Teao says Maori have led the way in revitalising their language, and he says they have also adopted strategies such as the Kohanga Reo movement or Early Childhood language centres to help its language survive.
