RAMSI celebrates six years in Solomon Islands

3:18 pm on 27 July 2009

Nation building through sport and involvement in the community is the theme of this week's celebrations to mark six years of partnership between Solomon Islands and the Regional Assistance Mission.

RAMSI Special Coordinator, Graeme Wilson says he has chosen this theme because he believes the contribution that RAMSI can make goes beyond helping to restore law and order and revitalise government institutions.

He says RAMSI personnel are actively involved in sporting and other community activities with the key focus on creating stronger partnerships throughout the country.

The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Derek Sikua has thanked RAMSI for all the work it has done in the last six years.

But he has also reminded Solomon Islanders that they must not

take things for granted as the regional assistance mission will not remain in the country forever.
