Fiji police restate ban on Methodist conference

3:20 pm on 20 July 2009

Fiji's Police Commissioner Commodore Esala Teleni says he will not allow anymore permits to the Methodist Church in regards to it wanting to hold its annual conference as scheduled.

The Methodist Church says it will apply for another permit to hold the annual conference in Rewa.

Esala Teleni has told Radio Fiji the church is wasting its time, as he will not authorise any permits for it.

The Police Commissioner says he will stick to the decision of the Military Commander and interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama that there will be no annual conference 2009.

Esala Teleni says he does not know why the Methodist church is trying to apply for a permit.

He says it's no use for the church to apply when they know that no permits will be granted.
