Three women have been killed and two others are battling for their lives in Hospital in Papua New Guinea after sorcery related attacks in Chimbu Province.
The Post Courier reports that in two separate incidents, one elderly woman suspected of causing the deaths of several people was burnt to death inside her house, others were beaten and tortured to death in Mai.
On the same day, two other women accused of causing the death of a leader in Gena through sorcery were tortured and set on fire but were rescued by relatives and escaped with serious burns to their bodies.
The provincial police chief Joseph Tondop is appealing to people in Chimbu to report any suspects of sorcery to police immediately.
He says people can't keep on taking the law into their own hands by killing any suspects.
