Aetna Global Benefits, which administers the Northern Marianas government's health insurance programme, has threatened to cancel members' health insurance coverage if a two-year-old debt to the company is not paid soon.
This has been disclosed by the CNMI Retirement Fund board which described the issue as very critical to all government employees and retirees who are members of the Aetna plan.
According to Fund administrator, Mark A. Aguon, about 120,000 US dollars is owed to Aetna for its services as third-party administrator for two years.
Mr Aguon admits that the debt is long overdue and is optimistic that Governor Benigno Fitial will soon act to address this problem with the insurance carrier.
