In American Samoa, five police officers may face charges following an investigation into claims that they removed money, drugs and guns from the department of Public Safety evidence room.

A report on the matter was submitted to the Attorney General's Office two weeks ago.

The Assistant Attorney General, Lisa Teesch McGuirre, says she is now reviewing the report and expects to file charges before the end of the week.

Sources close to the investigation say five police officers, who were placed under administrative leave during the probe, are all implicated.

Though the investigation initially focused on drugs and cash seized from the home of drug defendant Punaloa David Atofau in 2007, it was discovered that cash and weapons from other cases were also unaccounted for.

Some of the weapons were found in the home of an officer who was in charge of the evidence room.
