Media restrictions in Fiji may prevent local broadcasters from attending an international conference there.
The broadcasters are members of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development which is to hold a conference in Nadi at the end of July at the invitation of the interim government.
William Parkinson, the head of Communications Fiji Limited, says he's hoping the restrictions will be lifted so that the media to participate in and report on the discussions.
"To have the government involved in a conference like this, the media involved and in fact representatives from Asian media involved as well, it could well help in discussing the issue. That said the AIDB is largely a training organisation rather than an organisation that focusses on media freedom."
William Parkinson says the AIBD has other member countries in similar situations to Fiji's so it's uncertain whether media freedom will be debated.
