Fiji awaits UN and Commonwealth response on political forum

1:50 pm on 27 May 2009

Fiji is waiting for a response to letters it sent to the United Nations and the Commonwealth requesting that a team be appointed to mediate in the President's Political Dialogue Forum.

According to Fijilive, the co-ordinator Jone Dakuvula says the forum will go ahead despite the delay as it must decide on an electoral reform.

But he says he does not know when it will take place as it depends on the UN and Commonwealth.

The forum was put forward by the government as a means to bring about electoral reforms.

Political party leaders last met on April the 9th to make progress towards the forum, but several parties were excluded from the talks.
