A spokesperson for the Fiji military regime has confirmed one of two media outlets it approached for air time has agreed.

Yesterday, Radio New Zealand revealed it had obtained a leaked document detailing the interim government's plans to use Fiji Television and the Fiji Sun newspaper to promote what it calls "development programmes".

Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni says Fiji Television has agreed to allocate it a channel to allow it to have air time of up to seven hours a week.

"It's one of the paid channels, but when the government programme is on, it'll be a free to air one."

Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni says discussions to acquire 12 pages of the Fiji Sun every week to promote its initiatives are continuing.
