Pacific Forum chair baffled by Fiji response to suspension

The chair of the Pacific Islands Forum says he's baffled by Fiji's response to its suspension.

Fiji's interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has said that Australia and New Zealand used their influence to push the smaller Pacific countries into back the suspension.

But the Forum chair and Premier of Niue, Toke Talagi, says it was decision made by all the leaders.

"He was at the meeting representing the Fiji government as required. He was questioned by the Forum leaders and he's aware that all the Forum leaders have a right to say whatever they want to say and the decision was unanimous. Now he can take from that, that it was just New Zealand and Australia is baffling to me."

Toke Talagi says the Attorney General was making comments without thinking about what he is saying when he suggested that the Forum will remain a part of Fiji.

Mr Talagi says the Forum is evaluating whether its secretariat will remain in Suva.
