The American Samoa Unified Health Command, met yesterday for a special meeting after receiving word about the three confirmed cases of swine flu in Hawai'i.

Activated over the weekend to screen arriving passengers for swine flu, the Command group includes LBJ Medical Center, Emergency Medical Services and the American Samoa Department of Health - which is the lead agency.

Health Department's medical director Dr Ivan Tuliau told Samoa News the command group spoke with Hawaii's health emergency preparedness official, who said the three cases were "home isolated" because of the lack of severe symptoms.

Dr Tuliau said the three cases in Hawaii were identified through the surveillance of passengers arriving in Hawaii onboard airplanes.

Meanwhile, Dr Tuliau is quoted by Samoa News as saying that the local Unified Health Command have also contacted Samoa authorities concerning the Hawaii cases.

He says the two Samoas have concluded to maintain their current surveillance of passengers and their border control measures.
