Fiji's interim Attorney General wants Forum to review its decision

10:59 am on 4 May 2009

Fiji's interim Attorney General says the Pacific Islands Forum should review its decision to suspend the island nation.

The suspension was in line with an ultimatum set by the Forum and took effect when Fiji failed to announce a date for elections.

Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum told Morning Report the Forum has taken a dogmatic position, influenced by New Zealand and Australia.

"Unfortunately that dogmatic position seems to be only pronounced by New Zealand and Australian Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers. If you look at it, non of the actual Forum leaders are actually speaking out."

The military regime says it will continue its censorship of the media for another five weeks.
