There's excitement in Solomon Islands ahead of the arrival of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu for the launch the country's Truth and Reconciliation Commission on Wednesday.

A five-member Commission to probe the causes of ethnic unrest between 1998 and 2003 has now been appointed by the Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua.

The permanent secretary of the Ministry for National Unity, Reconciliation and Peace, Joy Kere, says thousands of people are expected to attend events being held in Honiara for the launch.

She says the South African Archbishop will make an address to the nation and officially launch the Commission.

"We are so fortunate to have a world-renowned leader, a Peace Nobel Prize winner as Bishop Desmond Tutu to accept our invitation to be here during this important time in the history of Solomon Islands. People are looking forward to hearing him speak and share his experiences."

Joy Kere says the five commissioners will have three months to prepare before the Commission begins its work officially.
