Australian reporter to be deported from Fiji

1:25 pm on 13 April 2009

The Fiji interim regime has asked the reporter of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Sean Dorney, to leave Fiji immediately as it has been unhappy with his reporting.

Mr Dorney was summoned by information ministry officials after he reported the absence of political news from today's newspapers which have been subject to censorship under fresh decrees issued after the abolition of the constitution.

He says he accepts that the interim regime has the power to deport him although he says he thinks it's not right.

"I'm waiting in the hotel room for them to come and get me."

Sean Dorney says he much prefers to be on a plane than in the military barracks.
