Solomons government looks to development of political parties and governance

The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Derek Sikua ,has presented a White Paper in Parliament on the development of political parties and governance reform in the country.

Dr Sikua said if the current government is to leave a legacy for the nation's political history, it is political reform for political stability.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation reports the Prime Minister as saying political stability is essential to building a stable society.

In his major policy address in January 2008, he said his government would enact legislation that would regulate the conduct of members of Parliament through a Party Integrity Bill.

Dr Sikua his government had appointed a working committee to investigate the potential for reform of the political party system in Solomon Islands.
