Work is underway to reconnect East and West Guadalcanal, after severe flooding in Solomon Islands last month.
In West Guadalcanal, 13 people were killed and an estimated 2000 people were left homeless when heavy rain caused extreme flood conditions.
Roads and bridges mostly in West Guadalcanal were significantly damaged and widespread damage to houses and market gardens was reported in the flood damage assessment prepared by the government.
The Solomon Island Broadcasting Corporation says a joint mission of the Solomon Islands Government, the Asian Development Bank, AusAID and NZAID recently visited the flood affected areas and found most of the extensive damage to roads and bridges were caused by debris loads from inland logging activities.
Temporary repair work has been completed reconnecting flood affected rural areas to the capital Honiara for access to markets and social services.
