A woman who secretly gave birth during a flight from Samoa to Auckland, leaving her baby in the plane's toilet cubicle, is due to face two charges in the Manukau District Court this afternoon.

The baby, named Grace, was discovered by cleaning staff when the plane landed at Auckland after the flight from Apia last Thursday.

Her mother had been recovering in hospital until yesterday and today Detective Inspector Mark Gutry says the 29 year old woman has been charged with assault on a child, and abandoning a child.

Detective Inspector Mark Gutry says baby Grace is well, and is in Child Youth and Family care.
