All Fiji political parties expected to attend political leaders' meeting

8:28 pm on 12 March 2009

All of Fiji's major political parties will be attending tomorrow's political leaders' meeting, despite earlier announcements from the interim Prime Minister some parties were no longer..

Local media reported during the week that two parties - former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase's SDL, and the National federation Party - were to be excluded from the meeting by Commodore Frank Bainimarama.

The Commodore was upset over statements by the leaders of the parties he considered unpatriotic.

However, he now says, in a statement, that he has not excluded anyone who is eligible to be at the meeting.

And the Commodore says participants need to come with an open mind in order that meaningful discussions can take place.

He says if the participants come with preconceived ideas and positions, there will be disappointment as the meeting is specifically to agree on a set of issues to help convene the President's Political Dialogue Forum.
