Calls for another shipping service in the Cook Islands

The Chamber of Commerce in the Cook Islands is calling for another shipping service to be established as the current service is being strained by the amount of imports.

Reef Shipping, which owns the sole shipping vessel, Southern Express, has been overloaded with material for a new stadium being built for events such as the World Youth Netball Championships.

The Chamber's president, Steve Anderson says it hopes the shipping company, the Pacific Forum Line would consider resuming its service.

Steve Anderson says having a second shipping operator there would boost the country's economy by creating competition and allowing more goods in and out of the area.

PFL says its considering talks with government officials about setting up a new service in the Cook Islands.
